Contemplation and Activity

I had the wonderful privilege of spending the day with my father.

He constantly enlightens and inspires me.
Today, his casual topic of conversation was that of:
The Necessary Tension between Contemplation and Activity
Perfect for a Tuesday non?

We can, and must have activity. Especially when the activity is one that we blossom in. The 'thing' that makes us 'us'. The gifting and the skills that when we use, we feel connected.

However, to allow the activity to have any depth, it is essential that we allow room for contemplation. It is this which stops our activity from becoming purely superficial. And, in actual fact, the contemplation is the most active because it informs and feeds. Without it, we are running on steam, running on what we once knew and thought but not truly growing with the activity.

It is a misconception that to be still is to waste time, the opposite it true.

L'illusionniste

Oh I am so excited.

Like, little girl excited.

The most wonderful Sylvian Chomet
responsible for one of my favourite animations

has written and directed what looks to be yet another beautiful masterpiece

and ... it is to be released on Friday

Hurrah!

The Illusionist is one of a dying breed of stage entertainers who is forced to accept increasingly obscure assignments in fringe theatres at garden parties. While performing in a village pub off the west coast of Scotland , he encounters Alice, an innocent young girl, who will change his life forever.

The trailer and photos look amazing.
I have booked myself a ticket at The (delicious)Barbican
Oh I simply cannot wait!

Only 48 hours!

(I hope there are subtitles?!)

Just look at these exquisitely beautiful installations.

They give my heart wings somehow.

but ... officially ...

hawkandfallow's etsy store doors are now 100% OPEN!

So far there are twelve individually made accordian fold cards on the shelves

Cards have been made using original and unique rent books dating from 1930s

Each card houses a beautiful vintage playing card
and is held together by a colourful ribbon tied in a pretty bow at the front

Each card comes with a handmade envelope carefully fashioned from a 1940s ladies catalogue

I will be updating the shop with other products every day, still many more shelves to stock.

a lucky change of events

When Pure Harte and I arrived at POP IN on Thursday morning,
there was much to do ...

mainly, laying rolls and rolls of grass turf to cover the entire shop floor!
Ingenious!
Hard work!

It sure did look beautiful though

mid rolling I got chatting to Michelle off of Krausz Jewellery
who had organised the whole affair
what an amazing lady

It turned out that there would actually be a space to sell on Friday and Saturday!
A Hawk&Fallow shaped space?
Oh yes indeedy.

So thursday was spent helping Katie set up and sell.

Her section of the shop was so very pretty, with bunting and bows,
coloured fairy lights and doilies.
A little dream land.

Thursday night was the private view
A great success, and even a mention on the Vogue Blog!

Friday I set up shop, literally.

I had some delightful customers, including a couple of dream boys buying cards for girlfriends.
Keepers! They obviously know their stuff!

I was very chuffed indeed to be allowed to muscle in at such a late stage in the proceedings.

Both Katie and I were very inspired by some of the chats we had,

Eak Design, Rebecca Coffee, Kate Underdown

Thank you ladies.
