new work

I thought I would share a couple of pieces of work I completed recently.

I made them both for family member's birthdays.
The first was for my lovely mama

I embroidered selected lyrics from the Nina Simone song
"I ain't got no / I got life"

(The lovely 40x50 cm cream beaded edged frame is from Habitat)

I then decided to do something similar for my niece's 1st birthday.
Obviously she might not quite appreciate it for a few years yet, but I wanted there to be a blessing hanging on her wall as she discovered each and every day
(Forever Young, Bob Dylan)

Hopefully, by the end of this month, you will be able to order your own choice of song/poem embroidered in what every colour you so wish over at Hawk and Fallow's Etsy shop

Time Gentlemen Please

If this was your Vintage Russian Mechanical alarm clock,
and it woke you up each morning,
would your life be a better one?

I think mine would

It's from the very wonderful etsy shop Clockwork Universe

Conrad Roset

My attention has been drawn to Conrad Roset
He is an illustrator from Spain and is only 26
And, well, basically, he's very talented indeed

I absolutely adore these paintings from his 'muses 2009' collection

Will You Are

One of those wonderful people I met on my adventure was
Will St Leger, Artist Activist

a dashingly handsome specimen

you can see some of his work on flickr

His use of art to expose and confront is both brave and inspiring.

"St Leger's stencils are humorous and sometimes surreal fusion of icons, events and images from popular culture."

One fact I quickly learned about Will, was that he 100% absolutely loves loves loves
The Smiths and Morrisey

I discovered these 'unofficial' videos he has made using clips from 1950s Social Guidance films.

I can't stop watching them, I'm in love

sometimes life offers you something which initially terrifies you, and for that very reason, you must take part

I was very privileged indeed to spend last week at
The Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Annaghmakerrig, Co. Monaghan, Ireland

Tyrone Guthrie (1900 - 1971) was a celebrated Tony Award-winning theatrical director.

At his death he left the house in his will to the Irish State for use as a residential workplace for artists,

what a gift

my bedroom was the stuff of dreams
large, ceiling to floor windows, with wooden shutters that folded back to reveal a breathtaking view out over the lake

I was invited to take part in a workshop with two theatre companies, one from Belfast and one from Sarajevo.

It truly was amazing.
Challenging, inspiring and provoking.
I met the most wonderful people.

And, as a result, I sort of feel changed.

The long evenings were of delicious food, burning candles, music and voices that I could have listened to for hours

Bright On, Bright Off

A somewhat tardy blog post about the shop opening
and my trip into the old school glamour of Brighton ...

It was most lovely to see what LMNOP had to offer in their little cave of creativity ...
The opening was very busy indeed, there was hardly room to move

and then in a little corner, a selection of postcards ...

I felt like a proud mother

If you want to identify me,
ask me not where I live,
or what I like to eat,
or how I comb my hair,
but ask me
what I am living for,
in detail,
and ask me what I think
is keeping me
from living fully
for the thing
I want to live for.

taking flight to the sea

Only two days to go until my trip to Brighton for the official
LMNOP shop opening.

It is exciting to think my little 'take flight' postcards will be there on a real life shelf

also I think they will feel right at home by the sea

I have been following the shop's  dramatic transformation over at their website

Doesn't it look lovely?

I simply cannot wait
