Lucie & Simon
scenes of life
"In their series, Scenes of Life, Lucie and Simon present moments we're all familiar with: a breakfast, a nap on the sofa, a swim in a pool. All of the mundane clutter of everyday life is there in abundant and clear detail. What gives the viewer a real jolt of delight, however, is that all of this is seen from directly overhead, looking straight down -- a seemingly impossible perspective, especially for the photographs made inside the rooms of their home.

All of the mundane clutter of everyday life is there in abundant and clear detail. What gives the viewer a real jolt of delight, however, is that all of this is seen from directly overhead, looking straight down -- a seemingly impossible perspective, especially for the photographs made inside the rooms of their home.
The peaceful, hovering point-of-view is reminiscent of scenes from Wim Wenders' Wings of Desire, where we share the delight of seeing things through an angel's eyes from on high. Or perhaps it's the feeling one would have in a pleasant out-of-body experience, looking down on oneself, disembodied, floating, detached, removed, above all the hubbub.
We're simultaneously given a voyeuristic look inside a private moment — and challenged to unravel the technical feats necessary to pull off a series of work like this.
These photos make you smile, and also make you appreciate the creative vision of artists who are able to show us the joys of everyday life, with a twist."

“I must learn to love the fool in me
the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances,
wins sometimes and loses often,
lacks self-control,
loves and hates,
hurts and gets hurt,
promises and breaks promises,
laughs and cries”

Katherine Leedale
Get your pretty little asses over to
To celebrate her blog birthday she is giving you the chance
to win a print of one of her gorgeous photos ...
"For this week's final round of the competition, the format stays the same - but with a twist. The winning commenter will not only receive the print of their choice but will also get to commission an entirely new image! WOW!
The winner can provide me with a brief - which can be as specific or as vague as you like - and you'll receive a second 8x12in print with the commissioned image alongside your choice of print from the blog.
As with last week, here's the instructions; just add a comment to this post
with a link to your favourite image from the blog and the reason why. For those who can't or don't want to comment here just email your choice to katherineleedale [at] yahoo.com. This will not affect your chances of winning."
Perhaps a good idea for Christmas presents?
Good luck everyone!

to lost loves
isn't it funny how people still haunt your dreams and thoughts
even though time has past,
and you have 'moved on'?
sometimes it's nice to have the memories,
and other times you just want them to go away

shake it out
I know I only just posted the video for this song two posts ago,
but there is something about the lyrics of Shake it Out
that are so important to me right now.
I have to have them RIGHT HERE
in bold
Regrets collect like old friends
Here to relive your darkest moments
I can see no way, I can see no way
And all of the ghouls come out to play
And every demon wants his pound of flesh
But I like to keep some things to myself
I like to keep my issues strong
It's always darkest before the dawn
And I've been a fool and I've been blind
I can never leave the past behind
I can see no way, I can see no way
I'm always dragging that horse around
And our love is pastured such a mournful sound
Tonight I'm gonna bury that horse in the ground
So I like to keep my issues strong
But it's always darkest before the dawn
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off,
I am done with my graceless heart
So tonight I'm gonna cut it out and then restart
Cause I like to keep my issues strong
It's always darkest before the dawn
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off,
And given half the chance would I take any of it back
It's a final mess but it's left me so empty
It's always darkest before the dawn
And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't
So here's to drinks in the dark at the end of my road
And I'm ready to suffer and I'm ready to hope
It's a shot in the dark and right at my throat
Cause looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Looking for heaven, for the devil in me
Well what the hell I'm gonna let it happen to me
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off,
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off
Here to relive your darkest moments

Shake it out, shake it out, shake it out, shake it out,
And it's hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off
today I am shaking it out, I do hope you can join me

knitted comfort
I have recently taken my knitting needles back up and am furiously making, making, making.
My first project, a knitted cushion.
I love knitted cushions.
You can't really see in the photo,
but there is a raised heart in the middle.
I have had this animal pattern material for a few years now,
so used it to back the cushion.
there is a lovely feeling when you finish a project ...
and then you can rest your head on it

a kaleidoscope of butterflies
As a paper artist my work currently focuses on the reinvention of entomological cataloguing, display and the assemblage of shapes. I am fascinated with the process by which three-dimensional decorative forms materialise out of flat sheets of paper. By deconstructing various paper ephemera I create unique works of art.
The delineation of these forms within the ethos and methods of my work requires an absolute labour of love, where repetition has always been notable and each piece is composed of hundreds if not thousands of profiles.
Each shape is hand drawn and then intricately hand cut from carefully selected paper, focusing on recycling a medium that would otherwise be discarded and lost. I dissect small details of colour, imagery and text into silhouettes that are then re-sculptured, pinned and encased. My aim is to transform an every day object into a piece of work that invites the viewer to see beyond its original source."
