We are so used to an abundance of words
that silence tends to frighten us.
It seems to us like a vast empty space;
we look down into its expanse and get dizzy
or else we feel a marvelous attraction
towards the silence that leaves us bewildered.

But when we discover silence, when we take the time each day,
even if it is only for five or ten minutes,
to close our eyes and to shut away the busyness of our lives,
we find that this great emptiness of silence
is already filled to the brim with what we cannot even imagine.

Divine wisdom awaits us all in stillness and in silence.
